Hey suckers!
I mean folks! :D

Not so long ago I have made few threads on few places (including this forum) about where to get the HDD storage for 4 hard disk drives or more and I did not really get any useful answers. Most of them were that I cannot buy a case for more than just 1 hard disk drive such as this one:

However I have a LOT LOT LOT of important data and it is increasing over time so just one hard disk drive is not enough for me.So what I wanted was a HDD case/storage in which I can place 4 or more hard disk drives and after a lot of research, headaches and torture (as always lol),I found one which is so cheap and so damn good.It is called SYNOLOGY DISK STATION DS411J.
What was important to me was that it should have at least 1 USB entrance so that I can connect it via simple USB entrance on any computer. This was especially important to me since my super old computer/PC has old 1.1 USB entrances.SYNOLOGY DISK STATION DS411J has 2 USB entrances and both of them are fully compatible with USB 1.1,USB 2.0 and USB 3.0.It also has one LAN entrance if you want to use SYNOLOGY DISK STATION DS411J through the network instead of local USB connection.Of course I prefer USB more than network, but SYNOLOGY DISK STATION DS411J has both so I really cannot complain.SYNOLOGY DISK STATION DS411J can accept 4 SATA hard disk drives and a great thing is that it can also accept 2.5 and 3.5 hard disk drives. You also has 4 plastic trays in which you can put 2.5 or 3.5 hard disk drives and you also get all the needed screws to put all 4 2.5 or 3.5 hard disk drives tight in place. You also get the LAN cable with the device. The only thing which you do not get is the MALE to MALE usb cable, but that is so damn cheap to buy so I really cannot complain.
At the front of the SYNOLOGY DISK STATION DS411J device you have the power button and 6 leds:

-STATUS
-LAN
-HDD 1
-HDD 2
-HDD 3
-HDD 4

SYNOLOGY DISK STATION DS411J device looks like this:

In short the SYNOLOGY DISK STATION DS411J device is so damn great so if ANY of you are looking for something like this,I would definetely recommend you this one because it's CHEAP and does a GREAT job.Oh and...did I mention that all 4 hard disk drives can be big up to 5 TB?Well the answer is YES IT CAN!Now THAT'S a LOT of storage :)

Cheers everybody!

Well hopefully my NAS device and hard disk drives won't die any time soon.
And this might probably sound strange to most of you,but I like this Synology device because it has an option to NOT use RAID if you don't want to.Because I do not use RAID.I hate it lol.It takes too much space.Of course that depends on the RAID type.
But the thing is I have 4 hard disk drives of 500 GB capacity and I want to have all the available space for data as much as possible:

465 GB + 465 GB + 465 GB + 465 GB = ME HAPPY :):):):D:D:D

Of course RAID is good if one of your hard disk drives die so you won't lose data, but let's hope that none of my hard disk drives won't die lol. :P

Also the software you get on the CD-ROM disk with this device is very very good.It has SO MANY useful features.Still all I need is to use all 4 hard disk drives as network drives (located in My Computer):

1. UAC DATA 1
2. UAC DATA 2
3. UAC DATA 3
4. UAC DATA 4

And if for some reason 4 hard disk drives is not enough for you,you can still add 2 more hard disk drives using 2 USB ports at the back. :P

Cheers!

Myself, id go with this, due to the fact it has onboard memory, cpu and what not, and can be run in JBOD mode if you dont want raid, but honestly doing a mirror would be in most people's best interests if a drive decides to go tits up, espically if you are keepin valuable data on it.

540 dollars?!
Mine costs 200 dollars and it still performs a great job.Not everyone has 540 dollars lol.Besides Synology DS411J which I have also supports JBOD and it ALSO supports BASIC plus a lot of nice RAID types.
I know that RAID can be very useful if the HDD as you say "decides to go tits up",but I really need a LOT of empty room and RAID just takes a lot of room (depending on RAID type of course) so for that reason I will not use RAID and HOPE that none of my hard disk drives won't die.All 4 of them are brand new.About a week old.Besides I do not even have them turned ON unless when I use them to store some data on them.
Maybe I would consider RAID if each one of my hard disk drives is 3 TB big lol,but they are all 500 GB each so......I NEED THAT SPACE!:D

Besides Synology DS411J has a cooling system too so it will (hopefuly) extend HDD's life cycle lol.

HDD's life can be long up to even 30 years if you take a very good care of them.I have few 15 years old hard disk drives and they all still work. And considering the way I am taking care of my HDDs,they SHOULD last for 30 years lol (I hope :P )

I saw an article that stated that RAID significantly increased the chance of simultaneous failure of both drives. That is why I like "Hot Swap Trays". Plenty of spare drives with backups of all the important stuff on them.

That's Raid 0. Raid 1 makes an exact copy of the drive on both drives, so if one fails, the other one retains your data. This decreases the chance of failure.
