Hey guys!

I put together a build for my bro over the weekend and everything went smooth bar the gfx set-up

His card works only prob is its running 4 bit colour i figured it was something to do with gfx card drivers, motherboard drivers or the bios.. only prob is i've updated them all and im still having the same 4-bit colour issue.

He's got a ep45 ds3l and galaxy 9800gt, im running low on ideas if anyone could have a stab at what it might be that would be awesome!

Thanks

You may have downloaded the incorrect update or be seeing a problem with the monitor. Even without board drivers on fully one of the first items generally taken care of is the video drivers/software so you can work with the rest seeing a comfortable screen resolution.

In certain cases one particular update for the video card may be the problem itself where a patch will come out later. The Catalyst 7.9 for the Radeon 2xxx series cards and one for the 8800s by NVidia each saw problems.

cheers for the reply pc eye!

I ended up solving the problem>< It had a reeally old version of xp on it. I installed vista and the identical drivers ( i had download the vista drivers from the same sites i got the xp ones) and it ended up working. I've never heard of an operating system being really old that caused the issue

So tonight on my offpeak ill download service pack 2 as my bro doesnt wanna use vista...but atleast i found out the error..still kinda weird tho

Ill let use know if Service pack 2 cures the problem i was having...

Glad to see you got that sorted out. For many things at this time SP2 is certainly a requirement for XP. SP3 is also available and is supposed to be seeing over 1,000 fixes for Windows in the last scheduled service pack for that version of Windows.

You must be using one of early XP installation disks that may have not even seen SP1 there if out before 2002. Make sure to manually create a system restore point however before going for SP2 and even SP3 since sometimes a large update will hang or see problems once on. That way you can backtrack for another try later.
