4 gb ram not detecting

i have windows xp 64 bit..recently i have installed 4 gb (2 gb ddr2 x 2) of ram to my pc but my pc is just showing 3 gb...previously i had xp 32 bit and that also used to detect 3 gb only...nd then i heard that 32 bit detects 3 gb maximum ram but 64 bit can detects more then 4 gb .. so to make full use of my ram i installed xp 64 bit but problem is still the same.it is still detecting 3 gb..kindly help plz.....

my configuration

dual core
intel 945 gcnl
n videa 8600 gt
4 gb ddr2

Your motherboard has an integrated video card. It's possible that it is configured to take the RAM that you are missing.

the chipset needs to support more than 4GB plus memory remapping. Yours supports neither.
