$400 i3

So, I know a guy that bought an i3 hp laptop from some other guy for $450. He needs money so he's offering it to me for $400. He gave it to me once to fix the audio, but I didn't take the time to look at the specs. All I know is it's an i3 hp with a 15 or so inch screen. Now, I looked on newegg and the cheapest laptop to match that description was $564. And this guy knows nothing about computers or pricing so he thinks $400 sounds good. Would you guys go for it? what does the i3 compare to in terms of other processors? Oh and by the way, it's in about perfect conditions. Didn't see any scratches or anything.
 
That's what I thought. I don't necessarily need something extremely powerful. My desktop can handle anything I throw at it. But I was hoping their might be some hidden power in an i3 I might not know about, since I no nothing about the i processors.

For mobile work, it's a good choice. If I had an extra $400 cash I'd buy it... but I don't.. :(
