I was recently reading review on the ATI Radeon 4870 card and apparently there is way to internally setting the fan for cooler temperatures.

This setting is found in a system file, but i cant remeber which as i cant find that thread on a different site.

Quote: "All you have to do is tweak the '.xml file' in the profile you create in the catalyst control center. I have the fan running at 40% and it isn't very loud. Keeps temps idle at 40 and load at 60."

I know average stock idle is about 75C, but would like to get the idle and load temps at the stated quote above.

So, does anyone know how to do this correctly?

Thanks :)

Oh and whats the best driver? some ppl say 8.6 and some say 8.7 and 8.8 Catalyst...

if you make a profile in catalyst after turning on Overdrive( make sure clock and memory settings are correct). You can then go to the file "C:\Users\User name\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profile name XML. the xml file will have the same name as the catalyst profile you saved. right click and hit edit.

<Feature name="FanSpeedAlgorithm_0">
<Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Manual" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="FanSpeedRPMTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="0" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="65" />

Change the value to "manual" and Want value to "65"

Save the file then reload your profile in catalyst.

the xml file needs to be opened in notepad...

Yea, that's what I ended up doing with the 8.7 drivers however the new 8.8 do a slightly better job at managing fan speeds automatically.

well i cant seem to find the pathway you given...dosnt exist my system, i am using xp pro x64!
would that be the problem?

Do you have a profile created to alter? If not than creat a profile in CCC and than alter it and than activate it.
