4870 is DEFINITELY bottlenecked with x2 6000+ haha

Well, there's no question I'm going to upgrade to the Deneb (940) when it comes out. I always suspected that my Radeon HD 4870 was bottlenecked by my current CPU (X2 6000+ 89nm 3.1GHz), but just for kicks, I decided to do some GPU overclocking.

I just ran autotune in CCC to get it up from 750 to 830, and the memory from 900 to 940. Not super, but still a noticeable improvement.

Ran 3dmark06, and saw ZERO improvement (taking into account deviation). My poor card needs more juice!

So yea, those of you who are thinking of getting a 4870 (or better) with a CPU like mine, you're wasting its potential unless you plan on upgrading your processor soon after.

Honestly, I think the 9600GT is perfectly matched with that processor. They seemed to be in lockstep with each other. Especially with a 17" monitor, it's perfect for you.

My 4870 is probably running more like an 8800GT right now until I get rid of the bottleneck.
