this one has me stumped
all memory modules are the same
built a new pc
D865PERL. amazingly everything worked on first try like a champ. no problems anywhere.
there are 2 1gb sticks in there and the machine is counting the 2gb
i put two more 1gb sticks in (brand new) that match the other two previously in there.
the pc counts to 3gb even during boot, and shows 2.85 in windows xp. in the bios it shows the correct memrory 4 1gb sticks.
i think the memory is bad so i send it back and get two brand new sticks. i replaced the memory i put in with brand new stuff.
same exact thing happens.
i notice the bios is a few versions old and decide what the hell ill upgrade it. after upgrading the bios the memory now reads 3325 during boot, 3.25 in windows xp and in the bios it shows it to be correct. 4gb with 4 1gb sticks.
i think i find a resolution on the net while searching various forums etc that states the memory is reading wrong and a bios setting will fix it. the setting has something to do with enabling the memory recount etc, not exactly sure on the meaning because i do not have the link to the site on this pc. anyway, i do not have this setting in my bios and am unalbe to do anything with it. the others that had the same problem mentioned that this fixed their issues.
so in short, after all updates, new pc etc, 4gb is reading at 3.25 in xp 3.25 during the boot, and 4gb in the bios listed correctly. basically the only spot the memory reads correct is in the bios, and when running the intel desktop control center memory test.
anyone have a clue? i am ready to watch that head on, apply directly to the forehead commercial over and over until i pass out.
