4GB or 6GB? (not as simple as that)

When it comes to RAM... well let's just say it's one of my many technical weaknesses

I'm unsure of whether:

4GB of 2x2GB Crucial Ballistix Dual Chann DDR2 800Mhz
or
the same 4GB and 2GB Corsair Single Chann 667Mhz

would be best. I've heard if you add lower freq. RAM all the RAM in the system will lower to that amount, is this true? Would this mean it would also all run in single channel?

Which would be best basically? Stick with the 4GB or add another 2x1GB with a lower frequency?

Unless you do a lot of video/photo editing professionally, you won't see a difference, when i game i use 2.5gigs max out of my 4gigs, 6gigs is just not needed at this time.

Ive used 3gigs ontime, but i had 5 ie's open, gimp, word, crysis, google talk, and music playing lol, so i still havent reached 4.

stick with 4gigs.

When I had 8 I never used it all but my system was a hell of alot faster than it was with 4, and that was 4GB OCZ Gold PC6400 vs 8GB OCZ Gold PC6400, so double identical memory.

Even with the lower frequencies, and it will lower them, I would have thought the 6GB would be faster than the higher clocked 4GB. If you already have all of the memory, try it and do some benchmarks/gaming/whatever you do, see how they compare

I'd stick with 4GB. As others said, you probably wouldn't benifit from the upgrade. You'd probably notice more of a decrease in performance from running single channel.
