My friend has this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130130

i got him this computer i built for him, and I used this mobo, and its using 2gb ddr2 667(pc 5400). He wants 4gb ram now, So i was gona buy it for him, there is only one 4gb x2 2gb for pc 5400 ddr2 667. But i found tons of them for ddr2 667 (pc 5300). will the pc 5400-5300 make a difference and will it work on that board. cuz i found a deal for ram for pc 5300. I rather get the cheap one. let me know guys. Also we have to update his pc to a 64 bit, to reconize it and he maybe wants XP Pro instead of his Vista Ultimate 32bit now, will vista ultimate 64 work better, finding driver wise, cuz i heard Xp Pro 64 doesnt have alot of support.

What ever you do...do not downgrade to XP Pro 64bit. That was a bad mistake by Microsoft and the software companies that chose not to support it.

What is wrong with keeping Vista Ultimate 32bit? Just because it won't recognize all 4GB of RAM? That is not a legitimate reason to upgrade to 64bit...I don't think so anyways. You will not see a jaw dropping performance increase just because it can see 4GB and not only 3.25GB...might not even be able to tell a difference in everyday computing.

I would recommend the upgrade to 4GB. But to spend the money to upgrade to a 64bit operating system...kinda a waste. Some people need the 64bit operating system and the mass amounts of memory, it really depends what you do with the computer.

if you wana save money just buy a 1 gig stick of ddr 667, because the 5300 will not work with the 5400, if you only get 1 gig you wont have to upgrade, you will not have to upgrade anyway you just wont be able to use all 4 gigs, i would just go for the 1 gig and save myself over 100 bucks for 1 gig of ram, chances are unless you photoshop and videoedit you wont use all 4 anyway, you wouldnt even use all 3 unless your friend is crazy with his computer

ram

you guys arent getting it. Im replacing x2 1gb to x2 2gb. but his ram now is 5400. if i buy 4gb ram of pc 5300 will it work with mobo.

They know what your talking about, they just wondered why you just dont add 2 more of what you already have.

Vista 64 over XP 64 anyday.

I really don't have any trouble with my version of Windows xp pro x64 other than the web cam I have. Granted, hardware manf. doesn't like to update their software for their hardware. Like logitech, I have a nice wireless webcam, but they don't have x64 bit drivers for it either. And they don't have x64 vista drivers for it either. If you are only going to use 4gb or less of ram, stick with the vista 32bit. I like not waiting forever to boot up in 32bit, and run slow at the speed. x64 bit boots and runs really fast. And so far, I have not had any trouble playing games with it either.
