5.1 sound

Hey guys, i recently hooked my 5.1 sony surround sound system into my computer via a 3.5m jack which then plugs into the surround sound audio in. Problem is none of my 5.1 films are playing out all 5.1 speakers or none of my music ?! only out of the front 2.

I know movies can definaltley be played for 5.1 but i need my music to also play through 5.1 sound because it will be amazing.

Im on windows 7

my soundcard has s/pdif and optical outputs and so does the amplifier on the surrounfd sound
