5 minute long boot time

Usualy my coputer spends about a minutes on this black, blank screen during bootup, it does this right before I get the windows loader.
This morning howerver it did this twice. Once before the loader as usual and then again right afterwards, only this time it spent about 3 minutes on that blank screen so I spent about 7 minutes booting up my computer. Once It finally turned on everthing was running at a crawl, this is very unusual for me. I checked all my processess and they all looked pretty normal. The only thing is somthing called TaskEng was running I looked it up but had trouble disabling it. I think that might be what is causing the problem.

I see nothing. Either Vista's just eating up your memory again.. or you need to upgrade your system or downgrade to XP.

Your computer is an HP right? It is a VERY big problem with HP computers, both notebooks and desktops. I work for a reputable repair facility as well as run my own business. This is a big problem for all my clients who purchase HP computers, and at this time HP is looking into the root of the cause.

Now that you mention it my last computer was an HP and it had a fairly long boot time. But this is ridiculous, and like I mentioned it wasn't always this ridiculous, just today it started taking forever. I removed the HP updates that came with the computer, if this is a problem universal to HP computers should I put it back on?

You have not said what the problem was. All I get from you is that anything branded with the "HP" logo is going to suck...

And no 3GB is alot. I'd try defragmenting and deleting unwanted items from Add Remove Programs menu, and can for viruses and spyware.

HP Sucks in my opinion, but 3GB + Vista = 10 mins is rediculous.

Hmm. Today my mom's computer's doing the same thing. Helluva slow bootup. I think there was something like TuneXP out there... or seomthing similar.

Since vista preloads everything into memory, there are a lot of issues that could be causing this, it could even be by third party. I would suggest clearing out all your caches, temp files, and application data files that would be stored or access via system memory.

A previous post suggested CCleaner, which is a pretty decent freeware application that does this.

Also, what, if anything, have you recently changed or added to the systems?
