Sorry, but yes, this is another quad core vs. dual core thread :P

PC will be used for gaming and media.

Go wild. ;)

There are a couple of items you might want to change there. The first would be the power supply. For that going with one seeing a slightly higher price would insure more amps on the 12v rails(17A?) as well as the correct number of power connectors.

While the Neo Power models are generally reliable they lean towards the budget to mid range builds. As for PNY and HIS for a card? A pair of MSI models can be looked over at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000380048%2050001312%201305520549%20106792627%201068310557%201067940677&name=Radeon%20HD%204850

There are 3 Sapphire models to look over as well seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...05520549 106792627 4017 1068310557&name=512MB

There's also one Diamond model to consider seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103060 Unfortunately newegg currently doesn't have any BFG or eVGA ATI models seen.

I lean towards MSI, BFG, and eVGA for the top performers while Sapphire is a good brand to consider as well. The problem I see with that model board however is only 2 usb ports!

I'm being pressed now in adding on a 4port hub on a board seeing 4 ports already since everything is going usb lately. Keyboard, mouse(optical trackball), printer, external hard drive, dsl adapter, digital camcorder, you name it!

monkey! go E7200 + HD4850! You won't regret it! :)

It will be lots better than Q6600 + 8800GT if you're going to do gaming. ;)

So you don't misunderstand what I was refering to before about usb the board here sees only 4 ports but... Onboard USB - Onboard USB 6 x USB 2.0

The 3850s +70s also get some great referrals not only in reviews. I can imagine the 4850s would be a step up as well but the prices on the newest cards?

I'm currently running the HD 2600XT 512mb model for the occasional gaming as well as certainly for multimedia, video capture/edit, and other things. That was a step up from the previous build seeing an X1300 Pro 256mb model to mid range without spending any large amount.

Yet this build with the Antec 900 case, board, cpu, heftier supply, HD 2600XT, 2gb of performance memory, and a tv tuner card tossed in climbed over $1,100-. That's something to consider if you are trying to limit things to the $500- budget.

Q6600 + HD4850 would be worth it. The 4870 would be even better :). I honestly dont see a dif in gaming between a dual core and quad core aside from technicalities. Heres reliable RAM from Patriot for almost the same price after MIR (I got mine) with better timings.

I dont have much of an idea about motherboards but if you are willing to pay more, the P45 is a little more after MIR but many on the forum say it overclocks like a pro.
