Greetings!

I am setting up a new system with an Intel Core2Quad
Q6600 on an Asus P5K-E mb. I installed a new WD5000AAKS Sata drive and installed a fresh copy of XP (pre-service packs). The install only recognized the hd as 130GB instead of 500.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Maybe try installing some service packs or maybe it's a faulty SATA controller, or SATA port. Could be a bad hard drive too. Did you use ESD protection when installing the hard drive?

Just some thoughts.

That is why. It's known as the 137 GB Barrier. Because of the inherent way XP was designed, it will not recognize more than 137 GB from the get-go, more often a bit lower (hence 130 GB). The fix: update to SP2, or partition your Drive during the Installation Setup into sections smaller than 130 GB.

Just Slipsteam SP2 to your XP cd and reinstall and keep the CD so you dont have to fool with it anymore.

Thanks!

Thanks guys! I had a sneaking suspicion it was an OS thing. I've ordered a full retail version of SP pro with SP2 so I won't have to download SPs anymore.

BTW, what does slipstream mean?

Why did you spend $100 for a new OS just to have SP2??

doh!

Because I didn't know about slipstreaming and I got tired of downloading all the updates to my six year old copy of XP every time I reinstalled it.

Thanks again for everybody's help.....I should have joined up sooner!
