It is rumored that Doom3 can support 512MB graphics cards
So, in a theoretical sense, if you have a kick-ass sytem like this:
512MB Radeon x800 XT Platinum
2 gigs Corsair Platinum DDR2 600
3.7 to about 3.9 Ghz processor
(and a monitor to back it all up)
This way, your system will be beefy enough to run Doom 3 beyond 60Hz on monitor resolution and graphical effects. Hell, with specs like that, turn EVERYTHING ON ULTRA settings with 2,560 × 2,048 resolution. It'll be enough to rip your guts out, instead of the fragged monster, ehhhh???????? :) :)

Yes, Doom 3 will support a 512mb graphics card. Ultra settings are actually designed for this.(makes you grumble at the fact these game making companies get all the cool stuff way before we can or even afford it.:P) But yeah, theory whatever! that machine would rock some ass!

You might not be able to run Half-Life 2 with it because their graphics engine is so amazing. :P

About the half life 2 comment.. I have heard different, that it isn't that amazing.. From Praetor's posts..

Doom3 on an ATI card at those resolutions isnt a good idea... why? The ATI card is very powerful and has a lot of optimizations but the way Doom3 was coded, those optimizations and such that make the ATI card what it is are not in effect (which is why the 6800s seem to be so hot when it comes to Doom3).

GDDR3 ????????
Been around for awhile.... if you think back to the fated 5800 that was GDDR2 ... :)

I'll admit i have a bias against anything to do with HL. But i have tried the engine out for size (back when i had an XP2100, 512 and a GF4Ti4400) and the bloody thing ran quite smoothly. FarCry was the first game to start to test me and then Doom3.
