560 ti SLI bottlenecked by E8400?

im looking to get 2 560 ti's to replace my GTS 250 SLI setup and am wondering if the GPU's will be bottlenecked by my E8400 at STOCK, which is 3.0ghz.

i can only assume yes, maybe not for games that only require 2 cores? but for 4?

Yes it will 100% for sure be bottlenecking you.

I would recommend a cpu/board/ram upgrade way before gts250 SLI. gts250 sli is no slouch.

I would go with an I5 2500k, a good SLI capable P67 board, and 2x4gb of ddr3-1600 ram.

Thats about $400, a little less, than 2 gtx560 ti's would be. After you get that setup, sell one gts250, your E8400, board, and ram, and that should be more than enough to atleast buy one gtx560 ti for now (which is stronger than gts250 sli). After you get the 560 then you can sell the other 250 to help fund another 560.

gts250 sli is no slouch.

they have finally met their match, SKYRIM. it might just be my overall setup, but getting defaulted to medium after playing pretty much every game up to this point high/maxed bothers me so, time to upgrade.

im going to take your advice and build off that. thanks.

560 Ti SLI which is stronger than a gtx580. Yeah, it'd be the bottleneck. Pretty common sense there.

Anyway, OP- Yeah you won't regret going to a 2500k, it's a huge jump in performance and will not be any kind of bottleneck in any game no matter what cards you get. And like I said even if you can't swing SLI right away even a single gtx560 Ti will easily beat gts250 SLI so you should see a huge increase in performance right away even without SLI.

well couldn't part of the skyrim issue be the cpu, isn't it a quad core recomending game, so trying to get high or max with a 3ghz core 2 duo could be his issue, which of course that would lead us to this same recommendation as core 2 quads are rediculously overpriced, the only one on newegg, the q9550, is still 300, and the i5 2500k kills it and is 220. but since you're doing this you might be able to just keep the 2 250's for a while and save up for a single 580 or something which should max out everything for a while, and later on you can grab another instead of having to replace 2 560 ti's which would only last a little bit longer, and also sli can cause issues in some games, so a single is always better really.

Honestly everyone I've seen takes bottlenecks far too seriously.

Will he get better performance with a quad core? In games that are coded for more cores, yes.

In every other game? Not at all.

The E8600 still has some life left in it. Until ALL your FAVOURITE games become TOTALLY unplayable on ANY settings, there is no bottleneck.

/thread.

560TI bottle an E8400? really, evidence?

He means the other way around :)

Except for that most games are coded for tri-core CPU's as that is what an Xbox has, meaning a quad core will give better performance in most games than a dual core.

that coupled with the fact that by 720BE being ~the same power as his E8400 is starting to get towards the end of its gaming life for max settings, I can believe that he will be bottlenecked.

You should go and learn what a bottleneck is, otherwise stop using it out of context. An 8600 will be bottlenecked by 2 560Ti's, that is a fact plain and simple. The 8600 may still play games, it doesn't take from that fact that it is the bottleneck of the system when there is no disc read/write going on

Is it worth upgrading if you have the money in order to get better quality games? Yes, absolutely.

Is it worth upgrading if one game you want doesn't play at all, or on settings that you aren't happy with? Yes. Not necessarily drop out on a full new system, but as OP is doing upgrade what is holding you back. In this case his budget will allow for a system that will easily play what he needs.

gonna get a asus p8z68 pro
and a 2500k

i have everything else, ill probably get a new case too. all in all im not going full on but its a good start.
