Ok i am just starting to get into this 64 bit cpus that are out now. I am running an AthlonXP 2400 which has served me well in the past. I now want to get something better. But i dont really understand all the 64 bit labels. For example a AMD 64 bit 3400+ say is only running at the same clock speed as my athlon XP 2400 at aroung 2GHz. And pentium run much higher at 3 plus. So should i get a pentium than as they are higher clock speeds. Also is the sempron CPU any good say the 3000+ or 3100+. Is there a guide on the net that will tell you the best 64 bit chips to get. There are so many out, and i dont know what to look for.

Hey

Although the clock speeds my be simmilar, the performance of the Athlon 64s is much better than that of the XPs. The frequency is not everything. In fact you could compare a 1.8Ghz Athlon 64 3000+ to a Pentium 4 running at 3Ghz. Make sure you read the above document to fully get the jist of it.

I could also compare a rock to a AthlonXP or anything else really ;) Just because both of them have a common feature doesnt mean they will directly correlate :) Realworld benchmarks are a much better route to go
