The GPU wont take advantage of it and the newer higher clocked versions only come in 128 mb varients.

I thought it was only the 6600 used 256, not some of the GT's. Anyway, my XFX 6600GT is very good, better than the 6800 id say (Not the GT etc, just the 6800)

kk i guess you guys recomend the 6600GT 128Mb then,the X800GT0 is only 20 bucks more what about tthat one. my comp is a gateway GT5032 so i can only get a video card with 300 watt requirements

Ah well, I would reccomend the XFX 6600GT then. Its a nice card, you'll like it.

a little... depending on the game. also, lets say the game does use the full 256mb... the GPU still isn't fast enough to process that much info and get it to the screen in time.
ultimately not enough pipelines or shaders on that card.

Not great at that price - the XT is inferior to the vanilla 6800.
