$680 Gaming system

Hey guys

Thought I'd let you chime in on a build I'm doing for a friend.
Budget is 4500,- DKK ($680)

Sites I'll be using:

AMD FX-6300: 819kr ($124)
Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO: 259kr ($40)
ASRock 970M Pro3: 514kr ($78)
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB-1866MHz: 387kr ($59)
MSI AMD R9 380 2GB: 1.540kr ($233)
XFX Core Edition 550W: 486kr ($74)
Seagate Barracuda 1TB bought from me: 200kr ($30)
Coolermaster N200 Windowed: 418kr ($64)

Total: 4623kr ($700)

I'd really like to incorporate an SSD to the build, so I'd have to cut ~450-550kr ($70-80).

This guy is better than me at CS:GO and he's playing on an 8 year old Dell laptop. I fear what happens when he goes above 60 FPS.
 
Why would you buy such an expensive (relatively speaking) cooler for that CPU? Ditch it and go with an Intel i5 with the stock cooler.
 
Yeah, cheapest i5 you can find is $219 (i5-4440) and cheapest 1150 mobo is $64, and that's a trash motherboard.
But I was just about to edit in that he agreed to put ~$80 more in to the build to get the SSD.
I think I might just hit buy, he'll be happy regardless. Just wanted him to have that SSD feeling. I mean, it's 2015 :)
 
But the performance would be a LOT better, and the extra few bucks may be worth it. If not though, I'd scrap that $40 cooler personally. If you are going to build a budget PC, don't spend 1/3 the cost of the CPU to cool it when the stock cooler will be fine.

Apparently you have not been acclimated to the noisy whining of the stock AMD ones :P

Agreed. I put a fair amount of FX chips in my friends builds over the past couple years. Yesterday I helped one of my roommates dust his machine and his FPS in GTA literally doubled because he was maxing out his temperature and throttling. That was a 6300. Garbage coolers. They work, but poorly.

What I'm saying is when looking at budget builds, spending 1/3 of the cost of a CPU on a cooler isn't wise as you could throw that back in to get a better CPU or use it towards other components. There are lots of <$20 coolers that would serve you fine if you really don't want to use the stock cooler.

The 212 Plus is a $30 model.. And I only payed $30 for my Evo when I got it on Amazon. I think Zalman? coolers are pretty reasonable for their price too.

Though it doesn't seem reasonable, the only jump that wouldn't put him in over budget is possibly a FX8320.

That PSU is also a little pricey....
 
Geoff, looking at Newegg and Amazon fills me with jelly. The CM 212 Evo is pretty much the cheapest CPU cooler available in Denmark.
You can find stock-type coolers at about 2/3 the price of 212, but the price/performance of those are rubbish.
Also, I expect to overclock it. Always wanted to overclock an FX-6300, but never had a reason to buy it :)

That's just about the same price, if I ditch the CM 212. But I want this build to be silent.
