6950 overclocking help

Hey everyone I have the MSI Twin Frozr lll 6950. I got the OC from 850/1300 to 925/1340 but anything after that passes for hours looping MSI Kombuster and Heaven 2.1 benchmark but crashes in games.

I am trying to get the voltage control working in MSI afterburner but no matter what I do I can't seem to get it to let me change the voltage. My card does not have a dual bios switch so I am not willing to flash the card to try and unlock it in other ways.

Any ideas?

Ok I finally got the voltage running on MSI Afteburner. So now I am wondering, what is a safe bump in voltage? How much should I bump it at a time?

very little. You should look up what your card is safe to run at, and definitely not exceed that. Just go up by a tenth until you are running stable

Thanks.

It comes stock at 1100Mv. I took it up 10Mv at a time. I looked around and people are mentioning voltages between 1.175 and 1.3. I think that is 1175Mv and 1300Mv. I'm kind of a newb when it comes to GPU voltage tweaking.

I can get stable clocks around 890/1300 but it seems that I need a signifigant bump to get anything higher. How do I know if I hit the max OC for this gpu?

One last question. If the display driver fails is that the limit for my gpu? Or can I add more voltage and hope that it solves the stability problem?

You can tell you can't go any higher when it won't run or at least be stable. You can keep giving it more juice (added that you have the proper cooling: more electricity = more heat) though don't push it past its max rated voltage. Once you've hit there and you can'tg go any higher without being stable, you've about hit your limit. If those rates are what people are saying I wouldn't go beyond 1.3. Be sure to be checking your temps too. It's all cool if you've got it O.C'd really high, but it won't be cool when it burns out in a week

I have the twin frozr lll edition. Temps max out around 61c in games. :D

Do you have any idea how to solve the "amd display driver has stopped working and had recovered" messages?

update or re-install them is all I could think of. If it's doing that after updating them, then roll them back.
