760 vs 670

im looking at the 4 gig versions of these cards. which would you go for. the evga 760 4gig, or the evga 670 4gig, considering price differences.

Technically the 670 is just a bit faster than the 760 (about 5% or so) but then the 760 is newer technology, so knowing that the choice is yours. The only thing that makes me lean towards the 760 is the fact that it's cheaper, so I would go for the 760.

The 670 is faster and over here can be had new for less than the 760, so I'd go for the 670.

I think all in all, both will be great cards..So I would go with whichever one is cheaper! I personally use a GT760 (only the 2gig version from Gigabyte) but it's still a solid card and runs BF4 Beta and Arma 3 both on ultra settings while keeping a good 60-70FPS.

well going the 760 sli route will be $75 cheaper than if I were to go the 670 sli route. should I buck up and just spend the extra $75 for another 670, or save the money and get 2 x 760's by msi?

I would go for 2 760s, cheaper, newer tech, and very similar performance to the 670s.

Not newer, same chip with 192 less cores and 16 less TMUs then a 65mhz bump and it comes close in performance.

Theoretically they can overclock the same, but anandtech showed the 670 is cooler so it might have a slight change in the cooler or the speed makes more heat than cores, but either way i think the 670 might squeeze a few more mhz out.

I'd just wait a couple months for new cards to start coming and check the prices then. Then if you can still hold on a little longer, prices always drop over the months following launches. The 7970 was 500 until the 680 came out, then it was 400-450, then the 7970ghz took that spot and dropped it to 400, now i havent checked in a while so idk, but i know several cards are 100+ less than they were at launch, and at launch they were all as good or a little better value than the last gen.

I can't seem to find anything about that, but AMD's next gen should be out pretty soon and the top end R9-290x will be ~1.4 times stronger than the 7970GHz which was just under the 680/770 which would get it on level with the titan on nvidia games and it would kill it on AMD favoring games. Plus both consoles use AMD so they are releasing a dirctX alternative which would pull more games into their favor when devs don't have to work as hard to optimize it across so many platforms

Forgot that the 700's are fairly new really, but they are just rebrands so they are actually over a year old now, they just changed the speeds a little and added or subtracted a few cores, but the architecture is the exact same.

well, ill be sticking with NVidia cards for sure. ive done a little research, and NVidia is supposed to come out with Maxwell, the successor to keplar, 1st quarter next year. I don't know if I can wait that long, but it sounds like they will be worth the wait. producing 15 gigaflops per watt, compared to keplars 6.

maybe I can hold off and use the 670 I have till then, but im not sure I want to. 2 cards in sli will be pretty powerful, but by the sounds of it the Maxwell core will be a lot more powerful then even the titan. im still open to other opinions

Dont feel like reading so much at 2:44am, but i can almost guarantee those numbers are wrong, never trust anything saying a single generation difference with over double the performance. Granted that is supposed to be per watt which isn't impossible, but they'd have to shrink the die to like half the current size which isnt gonna happen. And for performance, the number you want is teraflops, standard measure of performance given by AMD and nVidia, never seen gigaflops per watt before. Plus, if the titan were (and i'm pretty sure it is way more) 200w, then 6gf/w would make it 12teraflops, but IIRC the faster gtx690 which is the highest teraflop card out is only 7, so i dont think that number is quite right either.

Idk, i've been up for too lng and need to sleep so don't realy on anything i said, but dont rely on that stuff either IMO
