I can get 499mhz overclock on my 7800gt, but not 500. I need 500 to achieve the next 27mhz step. How do I go about getting 500? A little more volts or something? (All I want is 1 extra mhz, so I don't want to add like 1000 volts or anything risky)

stay at 499mhz. thats a good overclock and its probably nice and toasty. also, id say youd get better performance by overclocking the video ram... and at 499mhz have you tested it in games?
i know if i put my core up to 480 i get artifacts after awhile... and i put an nv silencer on mine as well as screaming loud case fans (when i turn them up) lol
high airflow = win.
i got my video ram to 1.2ghz :) (1.29ghz max)

Recommendation

I would recommend not tuning it up any higher or if not down truning it. Your lucky you got it that far without wearing it out. I have a 7800gt CO (with Copper Heatsink) that comes 470/1100 and it runs around 40 celsius idle and anywhere from 50-69 celsius running F.E.A.R Full settings. So, I think you will probably need to tune it down a bit or get air conditioning. Your video card will not last very long running at those speeds, it will be running to hot. Which causes wear in the IC. (Intergrated Circuits)

From what I understand its not that he wants to hit 500 its that 500 is the next step for the delta.

My sugestion would be to mod a BIOS for the card with either higher voltage or a different delta.

yea, but he would increase heat WAY too much!
i mean it runs hot under stock speeds...
either way a video memory overclock would do his video card better.
