7800gt vs 7600gt

why do these two function so close in comparison? according to http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=313&card2=385# the 7600gt even beats out the 7800gt in 3dmark06, although it is 1k points behind in 3dmark05. the $200 7800gt tag versus the $100 7600gt tags dont seem to be correct, unless youre paying twice as much for 8 extra pipelines, and not much more performance???

It's pretty hard to find a 7800GT anymore. Perhaps they quit making them after the 7600 series came out?

The 7800GT is a higher performance card, and the price still reflects this. 3DMark isn't the best indication of this. I'm quite sure if you look around you'll find real game benchmarks that show the 7800 on top. However, I don't beleive the difference would be enough to get a 7800 over a 7600

You cant go by the 3DMark scores on GPU Review because they dont have a set platform. One benchmark may be used on an Athlon 64 3000+ with the 7800GT, while the 7600GT could have been used on an X6800.

The 7800GT is a much better performer, but you can find it on Newegg for $130, not $200.

For the price difference the 7600gt is a better deal, for what a 7800gt runs you could almost get a 7950gt! I dont know OMEGA the one 7800gt on newegg PCIe is 209 bucks
