7800gtx Overclock!

I wouldn't recommend overclocking a 7800GTX - that's obscenely unnecessary as nothing will really even be able to strain a 7800GTX at stock settings. Overclocking it would just be reducing it's lifespan needlessly.

Roger that, which brand should I get?
you should read video card 101
I want to get a <whatever>, which manufacturer should I choose?
Well generally speaking there are a few ways at looking at this:

* Since you're asking then odds are you wont notice the difference in any of the manufacturers ... so get the cheapest one!
* Certain manufacturers tend to overclock their parts and so compared to the stock models, you will get a bit more performance out of them; the flipside is that you'll be paying a price premium. Some examples of such companies are ASUS, BFG, HIS, Sapphire and XFX. Not only will there be a difference in the performance, often there will be a thermal/acoustic difference as special aftermarket coolers are often used (see HIS/Sapphire for clear-as-day examples)
* Certain manufacturers tend to have lower-than-average prices: some examples of such are eVGA, MSI, Powercolor and Sapphire. Sometimes there's a catch but sometimes (probably more often than not) you're just getting a better deal without any strings attatched
* Some makers are generally known for doing really wild stuff with their cards: ASUS, eVGA, Gigabyte, HIS/Sapphire/Powercolor etc are some examples

But yeah, for the most part, it wont really matter all that much between makers.

You know the XFX 512MB cost 749.00. Thats the price of an ELITE processor.

Im going for the XFX, the highest clock one... 525.00. Thats alot of money for a video card. Oh well, thats our winner.

Personally, I really like eVGA. Theyre customer service and support is top of the line. Im also very content with their stock cooling choices as well as the performance and warranty of my 7800gtx. BTW, I have had one game tax my video card to the point where I had to turn anti-aliasing down to 6x. In
Doom 3, with all settings on high and anti-aliasing on 16x, game ran pretty choppy.

Hmm strange, I though XFX was known for a few heating problems. Also I would recommend EVGA. They have lifetime warranty and the step-up program. If you buy the gtx 256mb now and want a 512 version in the next 3 months, you only have to pay the difference between the two cards with their program. Also getting the highest clocked card is pointless. Pretty much all GTX cards can overclock to at least 490/1300. Just buy a cheaper one and overclock it.
