7900 Gt Oc Sli?

im just lookin for some advice. im a first time computer builder and technically its not done yet since the processer is still being shipped but the advice im really lookin for is that I have a BFG 7900 GT OC and i was thinkin bout gettin anotehr one for SLI in december but i was woundering if i should just save my money and maybe wait for a newer graphics card (since they just keep coming out) or if SLI will do for a long time to get the my money worth out of it.

the 7900GT isnt particulairy mid range tough... :)
The GeForce 8800's will be expensive,.. very evern,.. If i were you, I'd look for a 2nd hand 7900GT (or one you can buy cheap :o ) I have 2 7800GTX's in SLI, and if i'm not mistaken, the 7900GT is faster (no sure tough, altough, i think the 7800GTX could be overclocked quite a bit)
anyhow, i can run all games so far maxed out (except Tomb Raider Legends with next gen contend enabled :( ) so if you ask me,.. I'd say yes, getting a 2nd one would be worth it :)

7900GT is faster than a 7800GTX 256MB edition, but not the 512MB edition, it has higher GPU and vRAM clocks, so it kicks the 7900GT's ass, but not by much :D

Memory bandwidth:
7900GT 256 MB ~44 GB/s
7800GTX 512 MB ~54 GB/s

Yes, the 7900GT is faster. In general, it will also overclock better due to the 90nm manufacturing process. There's also the potential for significant gains via volt modding, although that's not a consideration for the vast majority of users.

IMO, it's a little premature to start talking about a december video card upgrade. The G80s are soon to be released, and only then will we be able to accurately assess their value and potential by comparison.

:( yea, turn my pc down.. :P But i think (if you really just want to upgrade the grafic's of your pc) wait till the G80 is released, and then buy a 2nd 7900GT from someone who puts it away because he's getting a G80 card.
Thats how i got my 2nd 7800GTX,.. because i bought it from someone who bought himself a 7800GTX 512 when they were released.
and i havnt regretted doing that (yet) :)

Currently, the only uses for SLI-ing mid-range cards, or buying an expensive, high-end card, is to get those few more fps, or if you have a large monitor (24" plus).

This time next year, there will probably be games which will need these cards to play decently.
