I have heard of the problems with 7900GT's running factory OC's. My question is, will this affect my 7900 that isnt overclocked from the factory? Also does this mean that I cannot OC my 7900 without destroying it?

Do you realy need to OC your 7900 yet?

I don't think your 7900 will be affected if you have not OC'd it. It most likely has a large warranty if not lifetime anyway.

I´ve heard that 7900GT's are good to OC. I´ll gicew it a try when I´ll receive my Xertvision 7900GT Sonic 512Mb 1.2ns ;)

they make 7900gt's with 512mb?
i've been looking for a good 512mb card.. lol
i mean i know the 7900gt is better than the 7800gt, but its not worth upgrading unless you get the extra video memory in my opinion.
anyways, it would be fairly hard to destroy a video card just overclocking...
now overvolting, thats a different story... overvolting creates a lot more heat, but you can only overvolt a video card with small mods which i've never had any success with and soldering which im not willing to do to my $300 card. ($300 at the time at least lol)

regular have problems too

I had a regular EVGA 7900Gt card that started having the problems after 2 days. I returned it to circuit city, and ordered a EVGA 7900Gt KO card from newegg. It worked fine for 4 days, then started having the problems (artifacting, then locking up within a few seconds of any 3d apps, like FEAR, or even 3dmark06). I RMA'd it for a refund back to newegg, and ordered a BFG 7900GT card that is OC'd from the factory. It's working fine so far, been about 7 days with no problems at all. Temp of the card @ idle is around 46C, and under a 3d game like city of villains, goes to 55C.
It gave a 3Dmark03 score of 17310, and a 3Dmark06 score of 6213.

To fade2green514: Yes they do.

Xpertvision/Palit 7900GT Sonic 512Mb 1.2ns http://www.palit.com.tw/en/products/nv_pcie_7900GT-Sonic.html

Gainward Bliss 7900GT 512Mb 1.2ns http://www.gainward.net/products/product.php?products_id=49

These two are exactly the same card both coming from Palit and that Gainward´s card is so much more expensive because of its brand. Both cards are using 1.2ns Samsung´s fast memory chips and the chip of those cards is high quality chip that is using high quality components unlike those others "reference 7900gt's". I found that only differences are sticker and the color of ram the sink between Gainward and Xpertvision/Palit.

I just ordered that Xpertvision 7900GT Sonic 512Mb 1.2ns.. So quess Í'll have tell how good it is when I receive it :)
