7900gt vs 8600gt

I'm debating on buying one of these second handed used for only display purposes and for my brother to play a low end 3D game. I read reviews and it seems 7900gt or the 8600gt gets the best performance per WATTAGE (not bangs per bucks) so my question is, which one is better? Which one consumes less power?

Is that why the 8600gt does not have the 6-pin power connector? And how about directx9 compared x10?

Why would you trade a 7900GT for a 8600GT. A 8600GT isnt really that much better then the 7600GT.

i would trade a 7900gt for a 8600GT...DX10.

i know the 8600GT isnt exactly a powerhouse when it comes to playing Crysis in DX10 but it can handle it on medium settings no problems.

where as the 7900GT can only handle DX9 and probably the same...medium settings.

The 8600GT is pretty much a dog card. It wasnt much of a upgrade from the 7600GT(8600GT= disappointment) The only advantage that is has on a 7900GT is DX10. Now if we were talking about the 9600GT, that would be a different story.

to 8600gt from 7900gt is a downgrade.

8600gt consumes lesser watt.


8600 GTS kicks ass with a combination of 6gig ram and any dual core cpu, XP 64bit.





if i get poor performance on dx10.. i wouldnt get dx10 card at all. rather go for a fast dx9 card such as 7900gtx, x1950xtx.

and if i can run dx10 games on low settings that look like poop.. i wouldnt play it on dx10 at all. rather play full fledge dx9 games like rainbow six lockdown at maximum setting, max aa, max af, highest res that monitor can handle.
