7x86 ultimate:How do I convert a OS ISO IMG to make it bootable in a HD

I have a clean 2.5" sata laptop HD.Found out it fits in my 3.5" external HD case.I want to put the OS in the HD,then put the HD in my laptop,& boot to install from HD instead of dvd.But I got to convert the image.
I have no idea how to do that:o.Never done this before.
 
You need CD writing software. If your machine came with a burner, then you likely have something already.

Double-click on the .iso file, and select Burn Image to CD or something along those lines.
