8-Pin Molex PSU Connector

I just bought a new motherboard and power supply. When I looked at the PSU, I saw a 4 pin molex power connector for the motherboard, but I also recognized a second one next to it. Now, that only seemed like a problem at first because I was unfamiliar with the double-connector setup. My new motherboard has a plug for one, and the other is covered up. So, my question is, "Why?" Do I need to uncover it and use both? Do I only use one? My only guess would be that it has something to do with multicore processors, but I really have no idea.

Thanks for your help!

If it has a cap that just mean the board can run with a 4 pin CPU power connector. But if your P/S has the 4X4 or 8 Pin CPU Power connector use it.

That's referred to a P8 connector used on some newer models boards coming out and not used for the board you have there. Some high end video cards may see use for that as well.

PC eye he is talking about the 4X4 CPU power connector. And his board does have the 8 pin. The cap just means the board can run with just the 4 pin.

And it has nothing to do with Video cards.

Please stop posting obvious crap!!!! God why dont they stop you.

What someone has absolutely no foresight of there is simply referred to as adapters for considering an SLI or Crossfire setup especially since newer boards seen at this time are now seeing 3 PCI-E slots where supplies may only provide one or two 4pin or 6pin power connectors. The unused 8pin molex then sees a new application.

He is talking about the 8 pin CPU power connector. This thread has nothing to do PCIe power connectors.

This has got to the point of noncoherent rambling out of sheer desperation.
