8 pins on the HD3870X2. need HELP!

Hi.

I'm right now putting my new rig together, but when I came to the GPU i found to different "pin-ports" or what ever it is called. One of them needed 8 pins and the other 6 pins. But together with the HD3870X2 there only was two wires with 6pins each.
So since it is my first build I'm asking if it is normal and what to do witht the one with 8pins?

I think you should be able to just plug in the 2nd 6-pin connector into the 8-pin on the card. (iirc the 8-pin connector alone would be enough to power the whole card, but for that you would need a powersupply with a 8-pin pci-e connector. )

I've read that you don't need the 8 pin connection unless you're overclocking the card. Two six pin connections will work, but you can buy a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter to be safe.

He's right, however the extra 2 pins also helps in PSU sensing which helps with rail balancing.
