8400GS for COD5

So i have an 8400GS, and i have had a blast with this card, it is a great card, if you just want to play games, and don;t care much about detail and such, it is a hell of a overclocker too...
So anyway my friend just got COD5 for the PC, i guess that i got him all into PC games now, so any way, i play COD4 on my computer and i get fairly good results, like if i have it @ 1200/960(i think) and i have mostly everything off except ragdoll & detail, i can get about 32 FPS on average, so my question is can he get similar results with his computer but playing COD5? i am not sure how demanding that game is on the PC, i have only played it on the 360, but he has a Dell, with a Pentium 2220 or something. It probably runs at like 2.4ghz of so, But what i am worried about is his proprietary psu and if it can supply enough power to the card. I am guessing its one of those 300watt ones, does anyone know what kind of amperage those things put out?
Because right now he comes to me complaining how he can;t play on his pc, and i tell them, that PC games generally can;t run on an intel on board video card, so i suggested the 8400GS, one, because its cheap, and it doesn't need that much power...

8600 GT/GTS or 8800 GS Might be what he is looking for. You could also try the 9500 GT. A member here (Jozeorules I think) has a stock 300 Watt HP Power supply and he is running an HD 4670 and a triple core processor, so I'm pretty sure you could run the cards I suggested, and I'm positive that his PC can run the 8400 GS. The ones I suggested are better though (including the 4670).

^ok, the reason that i chose the 8400GS is because i want to be some what conservative, and i don't want to be reliable for his computer, because i will be installing it, seeing that he doesn't know much about computers.
I think ill just tell him to get the 8400GS and ill overclock it for him... Because I am sure that he will have no problem playing in 800/600, and i just played COD4 and i put everything on low, and i got 65FPS average...So i could set it at 1280/960 for him on low and he can get about 30FPS or so, he should be fine...

Being conservative isn't overclocking, IMO. I wouldn't want to be responsible for that. I'd just go for a 4670, they aren't bad price wise and loads better performance wise. AT LEAST get an 8600. He's simply not going to be happy with an 8400..

well i dont need to overclock, but i think getting a more powerful card than an 8400GS would be a little bit risky, Plus, i seriously doubt my buds going to pay 100$ for a Gcard, when he hardly plays on the computer except for halo. 8400GS is fine.

Why wouldn't overclocking the Graphics card be considered conservative, considering that this card is fairly weak?

Wouldn't it be more risky to get a card that requires more wattage and amperage, than a card that needs less?

core:500
mem:300
shader:1200
?

BTW: I am very happy with my 8400GS :) lol

Why did you ask for the opinions of the members of this board if you're just going to contradict the information supplied to you?

To me, it sounds like you're set on an 8400GS.. so get it, install it and when it doesn't work properly with COD5, have your friend spend even more money on a second card :)

EDIT/PS: Here's a decent deal on an 8800GT - EVGA 320-P2-N811-RX GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - $79.99. Compare that to the $30-50 you'll spend on an outdated 8400GS, and the choice becomes obvious :D

Just get a 4670. They only use a tiny bit of power. And jozeorules does have one with a stock hp 300watt power supply. I had an 8600gt with my 300watt emachines power supply for a long time. Just get a 4670.

Yep. Go 4670. It's only rated at 25 Watts AFAIK, and it's a monster performer for the price, especially when you turn ap the AA and AF - it handles both like air. Runs Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory at 75fps average (Vsync capped) with 24xAA, 16xAF and everything else turned all the way up.
