When i first got this card it idled at 45c+- and max of around 60c. Over time i don't know what happened but the temps have slowly went up to 52c+ idle and around 65c max. I looked at it and the chip was covered with a mm of thermal compound and the heatsink was raised up by it a mm. At 65c the heatsink is still cool! Im planning on just taking it of and putting a nice thin new layer of artec silver. But i look at other peoples temps and they get higher than me with stock 8600s???!?! Is it just that i have a good heatsink and they dont? But i dont think my heatsink is doing much in the first place because of all that thermal compound..... here's the card

eh i wouldnt complain...mine since day 1 has idled around 58-61c, which i ve heard is quite normal for this card. It just runs hot

Well the heatsink isn't warm at all, which shows that its obviously not transferring very well. Most likely due to the GOB of thermal paste thats on it.

If it doesnt have a warrenty then i see no harm in getting a better fan or even just applying some AS5 like you mentioned. Id imagine the worse case scenario is the temps stay the same...
