8800 GT OC black screen on DVI, native resolution only

Hi everyone, this is my first post, I've been searching everywhere for an answer to this question and really couldn't find something helpful. Here it goes:

I'm running a Quad core 6600 processor on a gigabyte mobo, non SLI, 4 gb ram, etc. and I got an Nvidia 8800 GT OC from BFG. Set it all up, its all working fine with the DVI to VGA adapter which came with the card. My monitor is a Daewoo 22" Monitor/TV, so it also has an HDMI input besides de VGA.

I got a cable that converts DVI to HDMI, so I plugged that in and set the monitor to HDMI input. Turn system on and it displays the bios and the Windows logo screen (Windows XP SP2) and when it goes into the desktop, my screen goes black and it says "no signal".

The native resolution of the monitor is 1680x1050. I managed to start Windows with the DVI Digital output connected to the HDMI input of the monitor, in VGA mode (F8 on startup). Works fine in several resolutions until I reach the native 1680x1050. When I select that, I get the black screen and then have to reboot so I can see something. So back to VGA and start over, I can get as far as 1400x900 or something like that.

Any ideas on what could be happening? The native resolution works fine with the analog vga cable and vga monitor input, but fonts look kind of small and fuzzy, and I really prefer the digital signal, which is supposed to be better quality image.

Thanks.

Yup, my drivers are updated to the last version.

I haven't tried a new cable, I guess if it's working in other resolutions, maybe it's fine and the problem comes from the vcard or even the monitor. Do you think this could really be the cause? If you do, I could try to get another one (but expensive...)
