I need help deciding which video card I should get. I heard that the 9600GT performs a bit better than the 8800GT, and around, or has a cheaper price.

Wait weren't you the one who just put the multi thousand dollar computer together? Anyway this question has come up quite a bit, and almost always ends with the majority of people recommending the 8800 GT.

Go with the 8800 GT.

oh and yea about that computer I decided to downgrade. I realized, no matter what I do I will always be behind in technology, and will have to spend more to keep up with it.

Just like the iphone, I bought it when it first came out and now they have the IphoneG3 or whatever that is like 2 times less then the original price of the first one =P

the 9600gt is cheaper but doesnt perform as well as the 8800gt because of less stream processors. although some highly oc'ed 9600gt might come close to an 8800gt i would still go with the 8800gt.

yea I just reliazed that =P the 9600GT has I think 64 stream processors, while the 8800GT Has 112 I think

I just might get that one =D And it come with free crysis

But with EVGA, I can upgrade my card, and just pay the diference right?

Not too sure, thats something you'll have to look into, or even call a support number to find out.l

Wasn't your original age like 12 or something?

And you picked the 9600GT over the 8800GT, and one of your points was, it was cheaper, so I am starting to think you want a budget build.

He lives in different dimensions, therefore his age is irrelevant. LOL he's had like 6 different ages :D

Lawl, but the 8800GT would be a better choice, even if you think that once you buy something expensive, and your behind, you'd be taking a step back by buying the 9600GT, performance wise and stuff.

But 9600 is higher than 8800, so it must be better.

-.- I already explained the age problems in one of my threads everyone keeps asking me the same fkin thing. And no, I realize just because the 9600 is a higher number doesnt mean its better. Im just going to go with the 8800GS

I had the same dilemna. I decided to go for the XFX 9600gt xxx version. Its alreaady a bit overclocked, and it comes with free COD4, should be here this afternoon.

I must say that the 9600GT runs really really cold. It idles around 40~50 degrees and never gets passed 60 underload yet on stock clock.
