I found a potential problem with my 8800GT. if you look in the center, it looks like the arm has chipped off and is no longer in contact with the solder, which might explain the overheating I have been getting lately. Or it could possibly be related to the sensor on the card?

Can anyone tell from these pictures if the prong in the middle is intended to be like that, or if something has chipped off?

I really can't see much in the pictures... But from your description, something has just come loose? How are you with a soldering iron? If everything is still essentially there, it shouldn't be very difficult to resolder. All you need to do is heat up the area where the "arm" was connected while pressing it down.

Your first link gave me this

Why it re-directed me to a "frightener" page I don't know, it was OK a second time.

If the leg is broken then you will have to bridge the gap with a piece of wire. Make sure when soldering near the chip you don't keep the iron their too long.

I will take the card out later and try to get a better shot. It was a really awkward angle inside the case.
