8800GTS 320mb vs. 8800GTS 640mb

I got the 320mb and i'm wondering if it would be worth it to return it and pickup the 640mb. I already have to set DiRT at 1024 x 768 to be able to play it on Ultra settings so i'm wondering if within the next few months with all the next gen games coming out, i'm going to have to crank the res down so much that even though the games will be on high settings, it'll look crappy. How long do you guys think a 640mb would last. I'm considering eventually SLI'ing so 2 x 320mb's would be 640mb but with 2 gpu's would that 640mb of total memory bottle neck? I know have 2 x 640's would last a long time.

sorry that that was a long post... i probably could have shortened it :)

sli 2x8800 320mb will still give you 320mb, if you're going to spend the money then get a gtx or ultra.

What? Well that's dumb. So that'd be kinda useless. I'm on a tight budget so I can't buy a gtx or ultra. I was going to do SLI later and not anytime soon. With a resolution at 1200 x 800, would a 640mb gts be more effective and a 320mb?

pal your 320mb GTS should be able to handle a higher resolution then 1024/768 easily, just turn something like AA down one notch and turn the resolution up to 1280/1024, or whatever your highest possible resolution is

Let me guess that game requires a 512 3D Accelerated Card.;) you have a 320 so get either a HD 2900XT / 8800GTS 640mb

Lovely's right, turn the resolution up. And to answer your question, no a 320 will be sufficient for a long time I think. By the time 320mb isn't enough you will already be playing dx10 (maybe even the last of the dx10 games).

Well Lost planet isn't a very good game in the first place according to many reviews...

Remember how lost planet came out for the 360? It played just fine on that. Then the PC version came about and they wanted to incorporate DX10 in right? But instead of doing the right thing and optimizing all the textures and making them look great as they were, they just blew up the texture sizes, which is a barbaric way to make things look better. As a result you may need a lot of VRAM. ( and i didnt even mention the horrible DX10 support)

Sorry but i'll stick to the games that are as good, gameplay wise, as they look. :D

Ok. I just put DiRT on highest settings and cranked the resolution up to 1200 x 1024. It runs absolutly perfect! My computer is crazy. Suddenly, it runs a million times better. Well thanks for saying that it should run everything fine (because it does).
