8800GTS Bottlenecked

Just curious, I have an 8800GTS(G80) 320mb card and my computer lags on games like Doom 3 and whatnot...it proves to be even worse than my X850XT. Could this be because my AMD 64 Athlon 3500+, 2gb DDR400 ram and craptastic motherboard is bottlenecking it ALOT. Doom 3 is unplayable even on medium.

I'm purchasing new stuff for my computer(CPU,Mobo, and Ram) to accomodate the card, but is this huge bottlenecking normal?
 
Doom 3.. No it shouldn't lag even if you had a bottleneck, which that single core 3500 might be responsible for. The motherboard could be part of the problem, but I doubt it's the reason..

To put it in context, I played Doom 3, everything maxed, on a single core 3700 (2.7ghz), 7600gt, 2Gb RAM, it played just great. Are your drivers completely updated?

i've got the newest drivers I can get for everything
