8800gtx 768mb or two 8800gt 512mb in sli config?

It costs about the same either way. Would I get more power from the two 8800 gt cards in sli than one 8800gtx with 768mb?
 
8800GT. I'd suggest only getting 1 8800GT over the 1 8800GTX, because it would still have very good performance, but defiantly go with the dualie 8800GT over the GTX.
 
the dual gt's would be better than the gtx, or you could crossfire 2 3870's for $250/card i hear thats better than the gt in sli
 
The CF 3870's do slightly outperform the GT's in SLI. But that depends on if he has a SLI motherboard, assuming he does.

The sky's the limit as far as mobo goes. I just finished a gaming puter build and I'm not quite satisfied, so I'm selling this rig and starting over. I already have a 8800 gts 640mb card in it, so I'm not sure what to do to squeeze out the fps I'm wanting. It's not sli so I can't add another card, but I can go sli or crossfire with my next system. The processor is an amd duel core 5000. 4 gigs, xp 64 bit.

The system I just finished gets 40-60 fps on medium to large maps in ut3. I'd like to get a solid 60 fps all the time. Large open areas and turning fast drops frames by 20 fps at times.

So it would be between the 780i and X38 board, i personally dislike nvidia chipsets because most are not overclocking friendly.

If you wanted to go with the X38 which supports crossfire, you could get two 3870's for crossfire. Or get one 3870x2 card (dual gpu card), the regular 3870 has GDDR4 memory while the 3870x2 has GDDR3 memory, they perform almost the same, but i think that two 3870's would perform slightly better.

Not to mention the 3870X2 would need a fairly large case (same length as the GTX)

I was also unsatisfied with my summer rig so I recently rebuilt mine as well. Got the HD3870 and never looked back.
