ok so now i have 4gb of ram...i was thinkin about gettin another 4gb to upgrade to a total of 8gb...dou think thats unnecessary or wat? i kind of want a lil faster system and more multitaskin sooo
well i went from 2, to 4 to 8 and there is a MASSIVE difference, I mean huge.
Boot times are much much faster, load times are much much faster, game speeds are quicker, everything is just better, deffineately wrth it because upgrade of RAM is so damn cheap
If your using Vista 32bit, The OS will only access up to 4gbs. Well, alittle less after hardware addresses. If the system is not using all the memory you have, installing 16gbs will make no difference. If you have 4gbs. and your system never uses more than say 3.25gbs. Installing 8gbs, Its just sitting there looking pretty.
I do a lot of photo and video editing and that is where it is nice to have more than 4gb of ram. Also if you do Cadd and audio editing to. But , if you are just into games and the internet. Most programs only uses around 2gb or less. I have currently 6gb of Patriot Extremes in here (667), but I am going to upgrade in August to 800 mhz and 8 gb. And in Sept. the new power supply and a new cpu (AMD Phenom II x4 955) is going into my machine. Since I do photo and video editing. My main OS is Windows XP Pro x64. And I have never had any problems with it. Very stable OS. I also run Duel Boot mode with Windows 7 RC1. Sometime next year I will migrate to it.
So if you are thinking about 8gb, you must have a x64 bit OS.
