9 cell battery and a 6 cell battery

My question is if the notebook came with a 9 cell battery, will the 6 cell battery work with it?

We tried a 6 cell battery on my friend's notebook and we got an error says "No Battery detected" and it is not even charging.

Pardon my ignorance.

For most laptops the 9 cell battery is an upgrade. If you use the base 6 cell battery (the one that is made for that specific laptop) then I don't see any reason as to why it wouldn't work.

Did you buy the battery somewhere besides going back to the laptop maker? If so, its because you aren't using the exact oem replacement battery. It may save you money but your better off in the long run going back to the laptop maker.

Actually it's the same as the original only that it is a 6 cell. It is an ACER Apire Timeline 3820TG. We checked the Device Manager and it is there. We did a Bios update too. This is the second battery. Acer replaced the first one she bought thinking that it was defective.

Whatever capacity, the rating voltage on the batteries has to be the same. if they have the right P/N, you may need to think about the motherboard.
