939 speed

I have a motherboard with socket 939. The fastest CPU I can find for it is 2.6 ghz (without overclocking). Does anybody know of anything faster?

the 2 CPUs PC_eye mentioned are the fastest in 939
the only difference is that the FX-57 is single core and the FX-60 is dual core

if you're not gonna over clock
get the Athlon64 X2 4800+ if you can find it (which i doubt)

the point is .. there is no need to get FX if you're not gonna overclock

yeah the fx are bloody expensive, and btw, if you are worried about clocksppeds, do not worry, they mean little these days. for example the x2 at 2.6 ghz will beat a p4 at 3.4ghz

I currently have a 3500+ at 2.2 GHz. It seems to be running cool enough, so I think I'll try overclocking. This will be my first time trying it, though. Any advice? Would installing a liquid cooling system be wise?

A liquid cooling kit would either perform equal to, or worse than, a top-of-the-range heatsink. Also, heatsinks are cheaper than water cooling kits.

So, just buy a heatsink (Zalman and thermalright are the top dogs). Remember, AIR cooling helps to cool the entire system.

Like with a custom-built computer, you need to build your own water-cooling kit with decent parts, and put it together in the way it would work best within your system, in order to see enough of an improvement in cooling to justify te cost.

With the 3500+ here a Zalman model cooler, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118223 keeps cpu temps right down below 40C when gaming with Half Life 2 or some other games. Windows Media Player use with the screensaver running during playback will bring that up to 41C when it loads it up. The case has a 140mm front intake fan on that style Aerocool case with a 120mm rear exhaust and two 120s on the side cover. Who needs water cooling here? And that is with an extra hard drive and two optical drives(cd writer - dvd burner) plus round ide cables and the main harness.
