9600gt issues

I recently bought a 9600gt card from Newegg for my new computer. I have never built a computer before, but now that every things together it seems pretty simple. The card came with a VGA/DVI adapter which I need to use so I can hook the wire from my monitor to my graphics card up but when I boot up the screen is blank. I don't think the graphics card is busted b/c I tried the adapter on my 5200fx ultra card and it also didn't work. Did I do something wrong or is there something I need to do for the adapter to work?

many of the new cards have an additional 6-pin power port that needs to be connected.

This extra connection can be easy to miss, I know I have before and will cause the symptoms you desribe

Look on the card, probably on the top back corner for this plug. There should be a connector from your PSU with a matching six pin connection.

If this isn't the issue, sorry, I got nothin'.

Yea I know what your talking about, the 6-pin connector turns into two 3 pin PSU connectors rite? I was wondering if I need to hook both of them up to the 4pin PSU connectors or if 1 is enough?

Your manual should tell you how many power connectors it needs, but you could probably find out on nvidia.com too.
