9800 GT screen goes black on hdtv

hey i have a new 9800 GT XFX Brand i got today and im wondering as to why the screen goes black i mean it works properly i have the card hooked up to a hdtv 26 inch rca and its hooked up using a hdmi cable? not a vga cable or dvi so far i tried to hook it up another way but i found out my card doesnt have a dvi port so i ran into a problem with hooking it up to my lcd monitor that has dvi and vga port so i can get windows to load but after it loads i hear the sounds and stuff of it loading but the screen goes black after loading the windows 7 screen soon as it goes to desktop with any drivers installed it goes completely black like its not getting any signal anymore i just got this card today so i dont think its the card could it be my hdtv doesnt support something to do with the drivers that i got from nvidia cuz i have the 260. the lattest driver version i even tried with 258. drivers to see if the old drivers had the same problem and ran into the same problem with those as well. by the way my card has not dvi port just hdmi and some other port im not familar with but heres the card on newegg that i just bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150489

by the way if you look in the pictures its kinda weird to me that i noticed the card has dvi port but the thing is my wires to my monitor has a space in the middle of the dvi while this card has no spaces in the middle but shows like its a dvi port to me do i need a special adapter or something to hook it up to my computer monitor and see if i have the same problem like this

i got it working

well it was a pain to get it to work buti got it to work on my hdtv eventually now im on my monitor and figured out that the port was a dvi port that i was talking about but i had ti backwards i think thats why the dvi cable didnt fit in yesterday i was tired anyways other then that im liking this card its doing ok for the games im going to use it for
