9800 GTX+ OC overclocking

i was posting in the other thread but it was off topic :D so i made my own.
i have a couple questions and for simplicity im listing them :D thanks guys

1. do you need MSI afterburner to run in the background to keep the overclock? or will the card be overclocked even though MSI afterbuner is closed?
2. max voltage for 9800 GTX+? by BFG?
3. good clock speeds for a good overclock?
 
oh and how do i unlock the core voltage for my BFG 9800 GTX+? i unlocked it in the MSI afterburner settings but it is still locked
 
If you can get that core up 50mhz and the memory the same, youve got a good overclock.

For me, it increases about 2-4 fps with my 250gts.
 
you can set the values and close the program. in order to use the profiles it needs to be open, however. when you minimize it, it will go to the system tray so there isn't any reason to ever close it. you can have it start with windows and/or start minimized to the system tray. not sure why the voltage would still be locked though. you can't move the slider at all?
 
ok another problem. with MSI kombuster the screen went black for like 10 minutes so i force restarted it.. does that mean it failed the stress test? how do i raise the voltage lol
