9800GT -8800GT Both the same?

The 9800GT runs more efficeint and a little bit cooler but that does not justify the price range. In America, both cards are the same price.

It suppost to have a Power reduction mode, a 55nm core and is Tri SLI if the manufacture decides to put 2 bridges on them. But performance they are pretty much equal. I would say the 8800GT will disappear pretty soon. Newegg is already down to 2 left in stock and they had like 15 a month ago.

only difference is a bios flash and a different cooler, nvidia is doing it so they can get rid of all there g92 cores, i believe they're going to be renaming the 9 series very shortly into the gtx 1xx series

I just said it depends on what 9800GT you have. Sparkle/Zotac/Palit/ probably EVGA/XFX/PNY all have some 9800GT with the real 55nm. Alot of the first released 9800GT were just instock 8800GT with a bios flash untill nvidia got the die shrink 55nm. chip out the door.

Its hard till tell by the spec. at the manufacture because they wont release what core they have. If you bought one of the first ones and found out you paid 30 bucks more for just a flashed 8800GT you would be pissed.

So some have the original G92 and others have a slightly updated G92?

Right, plus they are not going to tell you which one it has in there spec. unless they are straight up. After you buy it I guess a program like PC Wizard or SandraLite will tell you or you could check out some reviews for it, to see if the review found out. I guess they felt like your not getting ripped since the performance is the same, just a die shrink and a bios flash.

They could have added the + to it like they did with the 9800GTX, But NOOO! I dont know if it was because they were pushing it as the first 55nm. core release, knowing the first ones were not and since it was just a die shrink let it slide or what.

I don't think they added the + to any 9800GTs. I haven't seen any anyways.

Here's my GPU stats. Looks like I have the first 1st gen of 9800GTs...

hmm well,i compared crysis in dx10 mode on vista to xp in dx9c and in vista it looked much brighter and more detailed.

i know vistas not that good, but dx10 is what makes me keep it.

yeah just like yourself i would like to go back to Xp for good and have no hastle, But i like to squeeze as much performance out of my system as possible... way i see it is whats the point in having a DX10 capable card and not using it?
