9800GX2 and the future

Ok I need some GOOD advice, lol.

I currently have a 9800GX2 in my system, runs great. However I'm taking a break from gaming till September.

So I figured whats point in wasting this great card, sell it now and buy something else in September.

Now am I likely to see anything that will be good in September? GTX280 dropped alot in price? 4870 owning everything? 10 series from Nvidia?

Or is my 9800GX2 likely to be up there with the best still so no point selling it now?

BTW I can get about £260 - £280 ($514 - $550) for my 9800GX2.

I believe the 10 series is sunk. ;) Unless this new naming system is temporary, we'll never see one.

On topic, the gtx280 is about equal to your GX2, the 4870 is an uncertainty, though I'm thinking it's performance will be according it's pricetag, that is less than the GX2/GTX280. That's a nice chunk of returned money, more than you'll get September.. I would personally sell it and hope for some price drops. Thrifty.

Sell it and wait. The GTX 280 will almost certainly drop by then, the HD 4870 and HD 4870X2 will be out by then. I heard the HD 4870 is better than the GX2 for a lot cheaper. So you will make a nice profit if you get that.

Yeah, some new benchies put the 4870 at a nice position, ahead of the gx2. BUT lets remember that several early benchmarks were released showing the Gt200 card having a good lead too, we know what happened to that.

Keep the 9800GX2,i dont know why everyone must have the latest gfx cards its rediculas and just not needed.

i say most of the 8 series from GT/GTS/ULTRAS etc and the newer 9 series cards will last quite a long time and will be able to play newer games for ages yet with decent settings.

4 months away i doubt theres going to be much change in the graphics card market.

True but nothing can play Crysis properly so not exactly future proof if Crysis is the future.....

well maybe not Crysis, but i still dont think that even the 9800GX2 can max crysis fully?

i would just keep your 9800GX2 for now,and say around Xmas time see whats new around on the gfx card market then :)

True but my 9800GX2 will be worth peanuts then.

nah, i would sell. you will probably get double the performance for the money when you start gaming again.

well tbh because pc parts go outdated so fast as you know your cpu will most likely be outdated too and create a bottleneck for whatever newer cards come out so its realy up to you.

because theres 45Nm quads out now so your cpu is already old....see what i mean?

all pc parts lose value after a certian amount of time thats just how it is.

That's the whole point. If he sells his card now he gets maximum profit, and in 4 months he can buy whatever's best for even less, price drops willing. This is the only way he can get something from the situation, keeping the card nets him nada.

knowing nvidia, probably something 3 months from now because of their complete lack of awareness of the fact that consumers cant keep up with $500-$600 cards being released all the time.

Coz I plan to get a new card September / October time after selling my 9800Gx2.

So heres hoping they release something good or the GTX280 drop enough to buy them for SLI.

i have a friend who has 2 4870's and he says they re amazing at high resolutions they beet the gtx 280

i am just replying to you request in another topic

the 4870x2 will well worth waiting for it will be better performance then the gtx 280 and better then 2 4870's as they are on a single card

the 4870x2 will last for a long time in future games as far 2 cry on be hard to process so it will be awhile for a game to come along like another crysis hard ware demon

i will buy your 9800gx2 if you are going to buy a new card or if your gonna sell it for future cards
