9800gx2

Tragic Moment

I was thinking of getting the 9800GX2 this summer, unless the 9900GX2 that comes out in July is better and not much more.

Any idea of how fast of a quad core I'd need to not bottleneck it? I was thinking like a minimum of a 2.6Ghz?

P.S. I posted this on another site, and apparently they didn't understand that I wanted to know how fast of a processor I need to not let the GX2 operate under full load. Just wanted that to be clear in case there is a misunderstanding.

Thanks for the video. I have Unreal Tournament 3 and I'm glad it's SLI enabled. I didn't really hear whether Crysis is, but I'm sure it is.

That really didn't answer my question as to how fast of a processor I should get to run with this card though.

Games in general are more GPU hungry than CPU, in effect, your GPU will operate under full load regardless of processor, and in accordance with the specific game. As to what speed processor would best allow present and future performance, your guess is as good as mine. The Overclocking repertoire of Intels current chips should allow more than enough headroom for the road.. So if you've a mind for it, stock speeds will matter little.

Yeah im thinking if you have a higher end dual core, fast ram, fast hdd, good mobo, and enough power you should be fine. Really a fast hdd like a raptor 10k or 15k would really help!!

I have a 3.2Ghz dual core AMD, 2GB dual channel 800Mhz DDR2 RAM, a Biostar TF520 mobo, and a 7200RPM 250GB seagate hard drive.

I asked around a bit more and someone recommended that I should have the Q6700 for a processor, so I think I'll just buy a Q6600 and OC it to a sufficient speed.
