okay, so i was trying to install windows 98se on one of my old comps again and i got about 25 messages that said a was missing XXXXXXXX.XXX file in line XX of my config.sys file... but when i put the HDD in another computer (the one in the sig), it installed just fine...

my question is does anybody know what's wrong with the other one? like why it gave me that error... isn't the config.sys file located on the HDD or is it in the BIOS?

The config.sys file is usually located in the root directory.
Usually c:
It is a text based file so you can open it with notepad or
wordpad or you can look at it by getting to the c: and
typing in type config.sys
That will list all the lines in config.sys. There usually
aren't 25 lines though so I'm not sure that your problem
is with the config.sys file.

i though config.sys was on the hdd... i wish i could get a pic for you... i'll try here just taking a picture of the screen with my digital camera... and no... it's a clean install...

does that mean something is wrong with the HDD? and if so, why does it work in one computer (the install) and not the other... it just doesn't make sense to me
