98se Intel Extreme Graphics 2driver problem

my 98se OS is running on safe mode, 16bit resoluton and shows unknown video adapter in properties. i tried to install right intel drivers but it shows -cannot be installed after100%competion, it says 'software error'.
i previously (showing foolishness) installed ATI display drivers ini files, uninstalled them after realizing my mistake but the intel driver wont install. what should i do now?:confused:
i still tried to rectify this error. i made driver backup using driver genius (it made original drivers backup) i restored the graphics driver. restarted and opened properties-setting-advanced-vieo adapter.[and following thing is shown] {UNKNOWN DEVICE}; standard PCI graphics adapter[VGA]; manufacturer:[standard display types]; software version: 4.0; current files: vga.dr,*vdd .Now this is beyond my tries! why isnt the driver installing? kindly help me out!:confused:
 
Try manually, System => Hardware => Device Manager => Display Adapters => right click, Properties => Driver => Update Driver => Install from a list or a specific location, and then find your Intel drivers downloaded from internet

I had a similar problem with a S3 UniChrome integrated garphics card and after installing is manually the error message didn't appear and drivers were installed.

Thanks anyway. today i just solved this problem!!! i was forgetting the device manager thing, which made me confused, i checked the intel adapter, did some things and its o.k now. this place seems lucky to me.
now i have another problem, which i think i should post in a new thread.
