9950 Getting a Bit Hot.

I just recently purchased a Zalman CNPS9500A cpu cooler to bring my cpu temps on my Phenom 9950 BE down over the stock heatsink. I was running at 47C-48C idle on the stock HS, but after installation of the Zalman, i only seem to be about 4 or 5 degrees below what in was at, running now at around 44C.

I'm pretty sure the CPU should be at less than this.

Is there a problem with my CPU, or is it the HS?

I used Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, but that didn't seem to work either.

I'm going to reapply the HS later today, after a bit of reading, using rubbing alcohol would have been a better idea than just a cloth to remove the old grease.

Thanks, and sorry if this is in the wrong section, i thought since it was more about the CPU temps it would be better suited in here.

That really isn't too bad. The 9950 and the rest of the original Phenom series don't run really cool. I have the 9950 BE and I usually idle around the 40*C mark. You also need to let the thermal paste "burn in" a little bit, just a day or so.
