A build request

Hey guys, I've been on this site for a while now...I used to follow the new part releases and stuff really closely, but not so much anymore. Right now I'm in the process of getting rid of my less than 1 year old Vostro laptop. (2gb ram, 2.0ghz dual core, 8600gt...I'm hoping to get 800) with the intention of buying a new desktop..but I have no idea what is good or bad these day. My challenge to you is to help me get a good build for gaming under 1100 bucks, with monitor (At least 19inches) keyboard/mouse and operating system. I'm anxious to see what you come up with :D

Wow, that's definatly a nice build. With Optical drives and a case I would put it at about 1350 bucks...which isn't bad. I noticed that the GFX and CPU come factory overclocked, what would the cooling requirements be on that hog, and how many fans should I be thinking when looking for a case?

Ok I'm back..srry didn't have time to finish last night. The Antec 900 is always a great choice for a case. It looks nice, and has great airflow. As for the CPU as long as you don't plan on overclocking it, you should be fine with stock cooling.

CASE:

Tpk=antec%2b900

DVD DRIVE:

This brings you to $1395 before rebates, and $1335 after rebates (shipping included).
A little bit over your budget, but it's really diffucult to keep it under $1100 when you include a mouse/keyboard, OS, and monitor. If you really want I can try to get the price down more, let me know what you think.

BTW: You could always go quad core for $20.00 more. Don't get me wrong though the E8400 is a great CPU for gaming.

Wow, I like the price of that build alot. How is that processor compared to the low end quad core stuff? Also I was wondering about actually building the thing. Do I have to download all the drivers for all the parts? If I did that would suck as I only have dial up, and downloading is always a concern.

which CPU is better has been debated many times. i would read this thread to give you an idea on which to choose: http://www.computerforum.com/122796-e8400-vs-q6600.html. I went with e8400 solely to keep the price down.

about the downloading stuff: you will want to download the updated bios for the motherboard(~.5MB). the video card and monitor come with a cd with the drivers on it with possible download updates. there will be a ton of updates with any vista OS because SP1 was released over 6 months ago(this will probably take forever). everything else should work with generic windows drivers, but if they don't, more downloading.

The one I posted up should work for you, I'd say go with the 9800 GTX+ over the 4850.

I would not recommend the mouse simpletron posted for gaming though, trust me making the upgrade to the G5 from my old Microsoft optical mouse made a huge difference. And yes you will have to download driver software for many of the parts.
